The American Carbon Registry provides an electronic registry system for Members to transparently register serialized offsets as well as record the purchase, sale and retirement of project-based offsets, branded as Emission Reduction Tons (“ERTs”).
The actual sale or purchase of ERTs takes place directly between buyer and seller outside of the Registry, although the Registry helps convene buyers and sellers and to co-market offsets. After a sale takes place, the transacting parties use the Registry to record the transfer of ERTs from one account to another.
Standards
The American Carbon Registry registers only project-based carbon offset tons that are real, additional, permanent and verifiable and comply with American Carbon Registry Standards.
Projects
The American Carbon Registry shares in the public domain the project story behind every offset it registers, transfers, tracks and retires. To view detailed information on carbon offset projects listed on the Registry, including protocols, GHG project plans and verification statements, please go to our Projects page.
Member Accounts
In order to maximize market transparency, minimize risk and protect and promote early action, the American Carbon Registry posts all offset documentation as well as transaction information within the Member’s account.
For a listing of Registry accounts and to view account information and transaction details, please go to our Accounts page.
